Chai Lee is a Singapore-based visual artist working across textiles, ceramics, and found materials. Her practice is guided by observation, nature, memory, and lived experience, culminating in installation-based works that explore the complexities of the human condition through tactile forms and visual storytelling. Drawing on themes of family, womanhood, inheritance, and intergenerational memory, she transforms personal narratives into shared spaces for reflection. Through her materials, she examines how histories are embedded in objects, gestures, and domestic environments, remaining attentive to what is felt yet seldom spoken.
Her works invite quiet, contemplative encounters that foster empathy and deeper human connection. Chai Lee received the Silver Prize in the Emerging Artist category at the 42nd UOB Painting of the Year, as well as a Consolation Prize in the Eye of the Naturalist Illustration Contest. She has undertaken residencies at JurongHealth Campus and Studio Plesungan (Indonesia), and exhibited at institutions including NAFA galleries, the University of the Arts London, National Gallery Singapore, Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum, and the Singapore Science Centre. Chai Lee holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Fine Art from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and was previously trained in graphic design. Born in 1971, she lives and works in Singapore.
