Drawing on a 1955 family portrait, the artist presents the silenced lives of the women in her family. She traces their muted voices, unspoken endurance, and quiet dreams.
Stitched through a fragile mosquito net, the work transforms a domestic material of “protection” into a space of entrapment, where visibility and concealment coexist. Threads stand in for the comfort she could not give, binding grief to remembrance and mourning on behalf of her mother and the other women in the portrait - for the losses they carried and the lives they endured.
The portraits hover between presence and disappearance, observed yet obscured. In this porous space of light and shadow, the work invites viewers to sense what cannot be spoken - to see the voices woven between the lines.
